Game 1
stephent (Britons) 3 banners; 23 figures lost
gotigerssc (Romans) 6 banners; 17 figures lost
Steve brought his chariots out fast with a mounted charge down the middle that was really effective as it broke my lines. I did not have much to play in the center so I tried to divert attention to the flanks and that is where I found the most success. Essentially used the cards I had for those sections and left minimal coverage in the center to push the advantage. Although, I did get a very lucky 3d roll and kill on a chariot that really dampened his pursuit of the middle. My cavalry proved to be a little more effective and that made the difference as he ran out of cards on his left flank and I was able to keep plucking away until I cornered the last chariot unit on the baseline for the win.
Game 2
gotigerssc (Britons) 6 banners; 25 figures lost
stephent (Romans) 5 banners; 23 figures lost
This one started out really bad for me as his LB just absolutely punished me from range making many of my units less effective. I tried to attack his right flank with my cavalry units and failed miserably. Before long I was down 0-3 and getting utterly destroyed. So I decided to bring everyone back to a central position and wait for the right cards while hoping he would attack, but he did not at first. So I advanced onto his left flank and started working on the cavalry units with a chariot, warrior, light infantry, auxilia, and light cavalry units and started catching breaks with the dice. Turning point came when Steve played a mounted charge to try and save his left flank but it ended up not producing much in the way of results (bad dice). I counter-attacked and was able to claim three weakened units to tie the game. Attention then swung to the other flank where his two medium cavalry withdrew from the hills and into the forest after harassing my center. Lucky for me that I had a double time to pursue them and claim the final banner for the overall win. I eventually drew another mounted charge to claim the other medium cav on that flank. Then we skirmished back on the other flank until the game ended with my light infantry claiming a one figure warrior unit to end the match. Interestingly, 9 of the 11 banners claimed in game 2 were cavalry.
Neither of us brought up the reserves and no leaders were killed either match. It was a pleasure facing off against Steve and I look forward to seeing him again down the road.
