Just collating the results so we can get the next round sorted before I go away. In addition to these I don't see a result for scipio1zama-Numantiah either.

5 banner games? Plataea goes to 6 banners!!
Gonzo replied the topic:

Game 1
Gonzo as Greeks 5 banners won and 15 figs lost
Armada as Persians 2 banners won and 32 figs lost
Greeks started with several light cards and a missile storm crippled much of the Persian left, but after melee it was still 2-2, but with numerous 1 and 2 point Persians fleeing. The Persian right tried to close, but a 1 point Persian cav with leader picked off on a hill and the leader took an arrow in the eye. The Greeks then had their pick of units to reap for the win.

Game 2
Gonzo as Persians 4 banners and lost 27 figs
Armada as Greeks 5 banners and 19 figs lost
The Greek right closed before much missile action and ground down the Persian left turn after turn. When the Persian right closed and killed an Aux and the Persian cav picked off another wounded one, the Greeks killed the last archer on the Persian left for the win.

We've only completed one game, which is why I hadn't reported yet. We'll see what we can do about the second although work have called me in tonight, which has screwed my weekend :(

BTW I've seen everyone's reporting blocks lost.....you're welcome to but they don't count in the preliminary rounds of this format, so you can save yourselves the effort.

Game 1
BrentS (Persian) Banners won 6
Tomek (Greek) Banners won 4

A really enjoyable and hard fought battle. Tomek had the upper hand early with two MFM's to whittle me away and then two Double Times to charge both flanks of hoplites into my lines. I was able to retire my right flank into the hills in the centre but was 3-1 down and looking to be in serious trouble. Clash of Arms was the winner......my left flank survived the Double Timing Spartan hoplites (just) and wiped them out on battle back and then Clash. A fluffed First Strike had me worried but a leader kill helped my cause. Well played by Tomek and tense.

Game 2
BrentS (Greek) 6 banners
Tomek (Persian) 2 banners

Hard for the Persians in this one if things don't go right with cards and dice and there wasn't much Tomek could do about this one. The hoplites just moved in to nullify the Persian ranged superiority (Order Mounted x 2 really helped with mobilising both flanks) and pounded away.

Game 1
Stonewall (Greek) 6 banners won, 16 blocks lost
mk20366 (Persian) 3 banners won, 25 blocks lost

Game 2
Stonewall (Persian) 5 banners won, 34 blocks lost
mk20366 (Greek) 6 banners won, 27 blocks lost

On the first game the Spartans advanced and hit the Persians hard. The Persians stood and fought back, eventually just with 2 cavalry with leaders. Michal's cards and die rolls hindered him, and the Persians went down. The left side of the board never engaged.

The second game started the same way, but after the Spartan attack, the Persians fell back to the hills. Then the Persians attacked the Athenians. The final outcome hinged on 1 block. It was as close as it could have been, but the Greeks won this one too.

I'm really sorry to post this here guys but you're my target group as you're a}. Vassal capable, b). interested in the period and c). this thread is where we're all focused atm (and the new BGG forums are a mess :( ).

Mark and I are one turn into the full 10 turn scenario of a PBEM Genesis game. I'm going away for most of May and was looking for someone to sub in for me (playing the mighty Babylon). A fun game about a fascinating period on an epic scale, that will almost certainly take most of this year to complete. This is a great way to sample and learn the game.......some of the other players are new to it and I'm sure Mark would help getting you up to speed (if his Assyrians don't take advantage of my absence to crush us and take our women, beards and all  ). Those familiar with Pax Romana would have no problem with the game.

I wouldn't want anyone taking this on to just feel like a placeholder so would be happy for you to keep going when I come back, or we could even share turn by turn.

If you're interested drop me an email (it's in the tournament schedule). Again, apologies for posting here but I thought it was the best option..

Game 1
Toganalper (Persian) - 2 banners won, 23 blocks lost
Mark McG (Greek) - 6 banners won, 13 blocks lost

Persians advanced and stepped into the Hoplite charge. Both Immortals perished on first turn!
Thereafter the Greeks pushed forwards, were a little unlucky to lose a Leader on a lc2, and the Persians were far too adventurous.

Game 2
Mark McG (Persian) - 6 banners won, 20 blocks lost
Toganalper (Greek) - 5 banners won, 27 blocks lost

Learning from first game, the Persians played conservatively, formed a long line of foot, and drew 3 Line Command cards to riddle the Greeks as they came forward. Initial advances on the Greek Right were repelled, and the game devolved to a cataclysmic struggle on the Greek Left. Essentially both sides lost most units on that flank, and Artabazus rode over to finish it off. Tough match.

Game 2
stormwalker (Persian) - 6 banners won, 28 blocks lost
EZPickins (Greek) - 5 banners won, 40 blocks lost

Two very close and very intense games. In game 1 the Greeks attacked on the right wing but the Persians managed to hold their ground, then regrouped and battled back fiercely. In game 2 following a number of lucky shots the Persians appeared to be in a full control of the battle, until they decided to launch a foolish cavalry charge without the support of a leader. Regardless, they somehow managed to secure victory. In summary, two exhausting games but we cannot wait for the second round!

Game 1
Cavie - Persian - 5 banners won, 33 blocks lost
Greg O - Greek - 6 banners won, 23 blocks lost

Game 2
Cavie - Greek - 6 banners won - 8 blocks lost
Greg O - Persian - 0 banners won - 25 blocks lost

Lots of blood in both games but dice did not cooperate at all for Greg in game 2. Some lucky shots by the Persians in game 1 helped for the banners acquired in that game. Hoplites and Mounted charge can be deadly - only one of those cards was played between the two games......
gcallari replied the topic:

Game 1
Sharpe08 (Greek) 6 banners won, 14 blocks lost
gcallari (Persian) 2 banners won, 26 blocks lost
Game 2
gcallari (Greek) 6 banners won, 27 blocks lost
Sharpe08 (Persian) 5 banners won, 29 blocks lost

Very interesting scenario with asymmetric contenders, with Greek perhaps just a bit favoured by its setup. In Game 1 Persian (that was me) advanced recklessly and ended finely ground in a very short time by those mean, tough guys from Sparta; in Game 2 Persian (that was not me) manoeuvred very well and surely had a bit of misfortune, or the result might have been reversed.

If I understood the rules correctly, this result translates in two points for Sharpe08 and one point for me. I want to add this is my first OT and I really like the Swiss-style format and this way of reckoning points. It's of course longer than a MT, but it will certainly be more gratifying.
