Hello,

I have question to two special rules from the tournament scenarios:

1.The British forces gain 1 Temporary Victory Medal at the start of their turn, when one or more units occupy any German trench hex in the front line, and for the second line, provided the first trench is also occupied, and for the third line, provided the first and second trenches are also occupied.
  • Does it mean that British can get maximum of 3 Temporary Vistory Banners?
  • Also, is it enough to have just one unit (even 1 block unit) in first trench line to be eligible for banner for 2nd line?
  • What if I have unit in 1st and 3rd line? I assuem 1 banner?

2.The British forces are racing against time. The German player may take a Victory Medal, instead of taking two command cards, when playing a “Recon” command card.
  • Does it mean that German player hand is effectively "shortened" by 1 command card?
  • How many times that action can be repeated?

1 (a) - Yes
(b) - Yes
(c) - 1 banner

2. (a) No, they draw 1 Command card as normal, and take a Victory Medal. They give up the choice of two cards.
(b) Every Recon card, but cannot be used to claim the Final Victory Medal

Round 1: 003 - Loos (2nd Division Diversionary Attack) - 25 September 1915
Mark McG (German): 6 Banners won; 10 figures lost
Chris (British): 3 Banners won; 18 figures lost

Considering the match was 100 minutes, a surprisingly low loss rate. Admittedly we both restored figures, (3 German and 5 British).
Essentially the British NML shelling was poor, and the British assault struggled, but made it into the first trenchline. Germans played 2 Recon cards for banners. Germans assembled in the 2nd Trench and repulsed further British incursions.

Overall, a solid match

Round 1: 003 - Loos (2nd Division Diversionary Attack) - 25 September 1915
Todd C (British): 3 Banners won; 26 figures lost
Todd R (German): 6 Banners won; 20 figures lost

Lots of hits in this one, as the British were very aggressive, and rightly so with a hand stacked of Butt & Bayonet with the odd First Strike. British had pushed Germans to the brink, but fell short of Burst results on their last charge, and were exposed on the final German Infantry Assault which was aided by very timely rolling - 3 hits on 3d to end the game, otherwise British forces surely would have won on the next turn.

Some sloppy playing by me, Todd R, both rules-wise and a few puzzling moves. Thank you to Todd C for being patient, especially when it dawned on me that Soldier results applied to all current on board units...not sure what I was thinking.

Huh, won't let vassal log file extensions be attached? Any thoughts on where to post those?

Round 3: 005 - Loos (German Counter-Attack) - 27 September 1915
Todd C (British): 1 Banners won; 25 figures lost
MichalK (German): 6 Banners won; 19 figures lost

Would you believe that scenario was fast (75 minutes) with a lot of action, close combat, interesting situations, etc.? Does not sound like TGW but it is!
It started with no-mans-shelling, which well-prepared place for close combat attacks of Germans. "Order 2 each section" plus "Trench Raid" showed that game going to be played on close quarters. And having really immortal bomber (came back from 1 figure to 4 two times!) who dispatched half of British causalities single-handedly was a major advantage. But Todd did not lost heart and tried to counter attack where he could, finally catching immortal bomber.
All in all, quick and fast attack by Germans prevented British from forming defence line on time. “First Strike” and “But Bayonet” were also helpful. And “Storm of Fire” combined with “Machine Gun Barrage” allowed me to (using cross-fire) to reach 10d in one roll – amount which I did not met in any other C&C game which of course dispatched poor British unit to causality pile…
Big thanks to ToddC for getting up early and playing the scenario. That was good play!

Round 2: 004 - Loos (Hohenzollern Redoubt) - 25 September 1915
Mark McG (German): 6 Banners won; 13 figures lost
plainscape (British): 3 Banners won; 25 figures lost

British came on very quickly in the centre, and then the Right taking advantage of the shell holes created by the No Man's Land shelling. German Front line troops headed for the connecting trenches, but thanks to a Bomber with Hand Grenade card inflict some damage to the Brits. An optimistic rush to the 2nd line of trenches was terminated in a Storm of Fire.

British brought up troops with Rush and rotation. German artillery fired regularly, but had little impact due to poor accuracy. Towards the end of the game, one stonk fell short onto German troops killing one figure. German Bombers were the most effective defenders, and in the end the Brits used Stretcher bears to get rid of one Bomber unit and killed the other.

All the action started concentrating on the British left, Tommies pushing along the communication trenches, and the German counterattack was fortunate in getting good dice, 3 Deadly dice (of 3 rolled) in close combat. The 2nd line was saved, and it became a push to claim the last banner. A final storm of fire picked off a retreating British unit, and the game was won.

No recon cards played by the Huns, and only 1 Trench banner for the Tommies.

Round 3: 005 - Loos (German Counter-Attack) - 27 September 1915
Chris01 (British): 6 Banners won; 23 figures lost
Toddrew (German): 5 Banners won; 29 figures lost

A very close game in the end. It started well for the British having a very good first turn which caused lots of hits on the initial German advancing units. Throughout the game the British player (me) had very good combat dice rolls. More than once a single rife unit firing at long range with 1 D came up with a Burst result. This helped keep the German units faltering as they came over the top. The initial German central push was replaced by a right flank push that was also helped by a very successful Artillery Strike (using the Artillery Bombard command Card and Box Barrage combat card combination). Then a Direct from HQ command allowed the Germans to get the left flank moving as well eventually taking the trench behind the hills on the left flank giving the Germans an extra Victory Medal and bring there total upto 5. The British just hung on, never getting a Recon command card so all there Victory medals had to be gained from kills which they manged to get just in time.

A very enjoyable game.

Round 3: 005 - Loos (German Counter-Attack) - 27 September 1915
alecrispi (British): 1 Banners won; 26 figures lost
Mark McG (German): 6 Banners won; 12 figures lost

The Germans had the best of the cards and dice, and were quickly across into the British Front Line on the British left.
Then became a matter of grinding down the Brits, which went well until a Strike First card knocked out the only German loss. The Germans set themselves up for a massive Whistles and Bugles move, with almost everyone going over the top. The Dump was seized, and a timely Lost Messenger prevented any significant counterattack. Then it was just pushing down the trenches.

Nice to see the Germans in attack for a change.
