Hello. I bought this game a few days ago and am currently working through my first game (solo) to try and get an understanding of the rules. One of the few things I'm not sure about is the Stretcher Bearer card.

1. Why would I play this on an enemy unit and thereby deny myself the chance of a medal when I finally destroy it? Am I missing something here?

2. If I remove one of my own units does that give a medal to my opponent?

Thank you.

I'll give 1 some thought but the I beleive the answer to 2. is 'No' as it has not been destroyed by direct enemy action.

Because if the enemy has a well-placed Machine Gun that could cause you a lot of trouble, you could put him on ice for awhile while your units advance in that sector by sending him to the rear. So wound him to three figures and then put him in the rear. I have done this myself in a game with success.

Another reason is to clear an objective, like a village hex, or a fortified position.
As the defender, if an Attacking unit is about to exit for VP, then would be a good time.

There is virtually no limit to the shenanigans this card could be used for.
